Our week in learning will look a bit different than during the course of our regular Unit weeks. We have completed Unit 2 of our Reading Street Program on Communities and will be focusing this week on our Winter Writing Assessment, Reading comprehension, a continued in depth understanding of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and why he was and still is an important part of our American History, as well as a written expression (in letter format) of what a community is, and how we are a valuable part of that community every day.
HOMEWORK:
Although there will be no written homework packet with the exception of the Reading Log for this week. I have enclosed your child's High Frequency List for you to use as a reference and practice tool in addition to their math facts they need to practice and know.
SPELLING:
This week our focus for spelling words will be your child's High Frequency List of words. Any words that are circled are the ones that your child still needs to practice to become proficient. I will send home this list, for your records, in Monday's Home to School folder with games and activities for you to use at home. I also have a copy here in our classroom and our focus all week will be taken from each student's individual list. They will be making cards for the 5 words (in order) that they need to continue to work on, and that will be what they practice during additional reading time here at school as well as what you do at home to assist them in the acquisition of these words. There will be no written pre-test or post-test for this week. Your child is only expected to be able to read these words at a glance without sounding them out. We will utilize this High Frequency List throughout the year to record progress and continue to work on what each individual student needs to focus on.
