our week in learning 5/30/16
It is amazing to think that we only have 13 and 1/2 days left of our first grade year! The time has passed by so very quickly! For our last few weeks our focus will be to continue learning about plants and their life cycles. Every student has planted tomato, sugar snap pea, and sunflower seeds in their very own container garden within our classroom and will continue to observe and collect daily data about what they see happening and make predictions about what may happen next. We will also be visiting our garden several times to plant, weed, maintain and enjoy our hard work In our Reading Street program we will be learning about innovators and incredible inventors such as Alexander Graham Bell and Benjamin Franklin. In math we will be reviewing data collection, bar graphs, measurement with an introduction to two digit addition and subtraction.
This week we will be taking a week off from our Reading Street program. We will not have any written homework with the exception of keeping a reading log. During the course of this week we will be quite busy! We will be completing an opinion writing piece, District Reading assessment, District Writing assessment, developing an additional writing piece about something that we truly treasure to culminate our learning journey in Unit 4, learn more about the life cycle of a plant, their needs, and how they impact and improve our lives, and the history of Memorial Day and why we celebrate .

May 30th Memorial Day - No School
June 3rd Field Day - Please remember to send your child to school with plenty of sunscreen applied, comfortable clothes and shoes you don't mind getting messy, and a change of clothes just in case it is needed. Water will be provided for all students at a water station. * Rain date is June 10th.
