our week in learning 5/30/16
It is amazing to think that we only have 13 and 1/2 days left of our first grade year! The time has passed by so very quickly! For our last few weeks our focus will be to continue learning about plants and their life cycles. Every student has planted tomato, sugar snap pea, and sunflower seeds in their very own container garden within our classroom and will continue to observe and collect daily data about what they see happening and make predictions about what may happen next. We will also be visiting our garden several times to plant, weed, maintain and enjoy our hard work In our Reading Street program we will be learning about innovators and incredible inventors such as Alexander Graham Bell and Benjamin Franklin. In math we will be reviewing data collection, bar graphs, measurement with an introduction to two digit addition and subtraction.
A few few dates to remember:
May 17th Family Fun Day forms must be completed and returned to school.
May 30th Memorial Day - No School
June 3rd Field Day - Please remember to send your child to school with plenty of sunscreen applied, comfortable clothes and shoes you don't mind getting messy, and a change of clothes just in case it is needed. Water will be provided for all students at a water station. * Rain date is June 10th.
June 8th First Grade Field Trip to Capron Park Zoo. We are very excited about our trip! Children will need to make sure they come to school in comfortable walking clothes and shoes with sunscreen applied to protect them from the sun. * Rain date is June 9th.
I realize the end of the year can be quite busy and hope that these dates in advance will help you to plan accordingly. I look forward to a wonderful end of the school year with our kiddos!
